Rosedart's Fliers and backdrop featured in the Pittsburgh Post gazette
Living with it, sticking with it: GLUE'burgh part 2 (Updated)
by Diana Nelson Jones/Sept 18
In the last post, I stated that Pittsburgh is sexy the way Paris is dirty.
What I mean is that "dirty" isn't the first thing anyone who hasn't been to Paris at least a few times would ascribe to Paris, just as "sexy" isn't the first thing anyone would ascribe to Pittsburgh unless he or she just gets it. A lot of people walk awash in Pittsburgh's sexiness because they have fallen deeply in love with it or been sucked in by its wiles, guiles and anti-styles. Other people get it because they delight in the quirky, the iconoclastic edge, the spurs and doglegs of our city streets, the honest gutsiness of its old-timers and the freakin' fantastic set of 712 outdoor stairways.
People who get it: The same people are intrigued by parallel universes, such as Alice's rabbit hole and Kinsella's infinite baseball game.
So many people want Pittsburgh to hold them because they love it. We now have as many former Pittsburghers as we have Pittsburghers, and they live all over the world. Germany, Arizona, Tangiers, Lichtenstein, the D.C. Beltway, St. Pete, Atlanta, Texas, Cranberry... and they devour our local news on-line, having wanted this city to hold them, too. Their love was a labor of contradiction: They couldn't live with it but they can't live without it.
The Great Lakes Urban Exchange (GLUE) is gearing up to inform public officials of the conditions under which its members would stay if.... and the reasons why they are staying put for now -- in Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and a few other cities.
Visit www.gluespace.org, where you will see a lot more than this intro:
Want to take the "rust" out of "Rustbelt"? Are you an advocate? A neighbor? A voter? A dot connector? The Great Lakes Urban Exchange needs your help to answer the question: what's right and what's wrong about my post-industrial city?
Join the movement for a “Rustbelt” Renaissance here on GLUEspace and via GLUE's offline activities in your sticky city. Become a member, tell your story, and help us collect, cross-pollinate, and replicate good ideas. Welcome to the mega-regional family.
Detroit's GLUE had its party in June. Pittsburgh GLUE held its "I Would Stay If..." party at the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty last night. It was one-part cocktail-mingle, one part workshop. About 120 people came and 75 of those chose to be photographed.
At every GLUE party in every Rust Belt/Lake Effect city, participants are being photographed holding their written responses to "I Would Stay If..." and "I Am Staying Because..."
The photo in this post (I know, it's too dark but hey...) is of Sarah Rubin, 27, executive director of the Hillman Center for Performing Arts in Fox Chapel. She held an "I Am Staying Because..." poster that read: "I am staying because I believe each neighborhood should have its own means of art." Obviously, she believes she can have some impact on that happening.
"I do," she said brightly. "I'm in a wonderful position to work with arts groups in many neighborhoods. I work with the African-American Music Institute in Homewood, the Neighborhood Academy in Garfield, and I can work with kids on how they wish to see themselves in the world."
Sarah, you are a re-enlivening person who makes me glad to be alive in the 'burgh.
Next, you will meet Michelle Coker, Melissa Osiecki and Carrie Hagan, but before I begin deliberating on the next installment and take care of a lot of other pesky chores of the workday, I want to leave you with the message on a flier I saw at the Shadow Lounge last night:
"The NAJP presents...We aren't waiting for the politicians! Change begins in Pittsburgh! Love, Rosedart."

From Rosedart: Michelle Field, positive thinker

Hello my name is…
Michelle Field
Aka…
The b***h with an off an on switch.
I was raised in…
Mount Lebanon, Pa
The reason that you’re reading about me is…
Because Rosedart loves me, and I cuz I'm real. I'm a realist.
Right now I’m working on…
cleaning my room and trying to fight through my a.d.d.
My most prized possession is…
It WAS a silver ring until I lost it, now I'm lost without it. I feel naked without it.
Second most prized...
My computer.
The first thing I do in the morning is…
Uh oh, probably yell at everyone, I'm not all that into the morning.
The last thing I do at night is…
Grab my teddy.
My momma always said…
marry a doctor or a lawyer
I love it when people…
are happy and funny
I can’t stand when people…
can't be real, if you don't like someone and you treat them nice to their face. I hate that.
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen is…
I haven't seen it yet.
The ugliest thing I’ve ever seen is…
Heartbreak.
If you ever see me walking down the street…
you'll be like "she is so fly..."
If I had to say sorry it would be because…
Someone didn't like my sarcastic comments.
The best advice I ever got...
My momma always says "don't ever let anyone use you." Also don't catch aids cuz you won't find out for seven years.
My plans for tomorrow include...
class, then work til six, then who knows. My life is a mystery.

Psalm 23 works for me, remember?
The Lord Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. [1]
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness [2]
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, [3]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely [4] goodness and mercy [5] shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell [6] in the house of the Lord
forever. [7]
For those that mean me, and you harm. Let em' read this.

Artist Feature:Rosedart

Hello my name is…
Rosedart
Aka…
The girl with cool shadez
I was raised in…
Pittsburgh, Pa Baby!
The reason that you’re reading about me is…
because today is a new day, and I keep chugging and chugging towards a telos I have not yet seen. Mostly because I run the NAJP in Pittsburgh, and just put out a tee shirt line promoting Positivity.
Right now I’m working on…
getting my clothes on your body, and getting posivity into your head.
My most prized possessions is…
My Laptop for sure, its my window to the world.
But I’d give it all away for…
Love
The first thing I do in the morning is…
Yank my sleeping shadez off and stumble around to find my glasses.
The last thing I do at night is…
Lay it on down and jam on most prized possesion.
My momma always said…
What goes around comes around.
I love it when people…
Let me know if I haven't turned on my headlines, or signal me to slow my roll if the police are up ahead.
I can’t stand when people…
don't wait their turn.
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen is…
positive thinking.
The ugliest thing I’ve ever seen is…
Jealousy.
I am what I drive, which is…
Focus, cuz I'm focused.
If you ever see me walking down the street…
Don't beep, I hate loud noises.
If I had to say sorry it would be because…
Oopsies, maybe I was shooting my mouth off again.
My plans for tomorrow include...
Biking it up all over the burgh. Hopefully selling some tees.

The Confluence of Art, Mind, and Positivity
So what exactly is the NAJP?
This is a confluence of art, mind and positivity from our city (Pittsburgh)to our world.
All around us are visual overloads teaching us negativity, bleeding it into our mindsets. The American society is programmed to sit in front of the TV and to consume. We are selling our minds and bodies to hate, lust, greed, gossip and spend all day long looking for the next temporary high.
The New age Jalopy project is a series of uncensored subliminal positive messages artfully concealed in a graffiti-esque uncensored way to slip positivity into the mindsets of people who ordinarily wouldn't look for it.
I want to get people excited about feeling good and focus on fixing the inner attributes that are the real causes of many of the issues facing society i.e suicide, hate crimes, addiction, slander, self-hatred,jealousy, broken homes, child abuse, and heartbreak.
Since I've started this project, I've noticed that promoting positive energy makes everyone feel better and I've noticed immense changes in the people around me who are taking part in this. I am fed up with waiting for the world to change, Change starts with me. Positive energy is a domino effect. Everyone wants to feel good, everyone wants to be loved.
Love has extravagant power. So I'm changing myself, and I hope you join me. I'm going to share a little more, love a little more, care about my neighbors a little more, and try to bite my tongue when I know its better to remain silent. I'm spreading the love and positivity visually. How will you spread it?
Love,
Rosedart and Andy
"Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else."

The making of last nights piece.
Last night alot of things were accomplished. I started out by cutting two separate ideas out that I felt were important messages for flyers. "I'm starting with me," and "Hey Pittsburgh, think positive." I decided to see what would happen when I meshed the two ideas together and made a few posters to put up around town. I pasted one on the southside and had to hurry home because my friend Kara Sambrick agreed to sit for a portrait(one that was really fun and candy themed-pics soon.)
So I painted her for about an hour and then she set up her tripod to photograph herself so I could finish the portrait later from a picture. She also asked if I wanted her to take a picture of my poster. Absolutely!
So we taped it up on the wall in her garage. I thought it would be cool if I took a marker to it like I was writing on it. Then said, " Wait, I have something EVEN BETTER!!"
She came back with a can of Montana Spray Paint. I held it up and we started shooting some photos of me holding the can.
She entered it into photoshop, then she started to add effects. She asked me to pick a color. Of course, RED!
Thats how this came into fruition. The photo was an awesome collaboration between the two of us. Thats what this the NAJP is about. Its about collaboration to make positivity flourish.
Alone we are nothing, together we take a stand. Together we can change the world to a beautiful positive change.
"Let's change the way we eat, Let's change the way we live, and Lets change the way we treat eachother."

Have a wonderful day, everyone! Think positive, and start with yourself. Positivity is contagious.

Hey Pittsburgh!

Hello my name is...Rosedart :-)
We are here, we are hopeful! We are young, and yet we are fearless. With love we are found!
A new mold has been created. Lets evolve and fight the fires and destruction with Love. Without Love, we are nothing. Without Love, we are LOST!

I love you all!
You are the change you wish to see. Its up to me and you! Someone has to evolve. It all started with Charlei's car back in 2006. I was all caught up in my own misery and problems and self dialogue. I didn't even know her then, but I saw this car driving around campus in Tampa on the back window scrawled in white paint, " Have you prayed about it?"
It hit me then that we are not under total censorship, we have a voice. Yell it!
Our passion will not go unnoticed.
Get started! It's easier than it looks :-)

the new age jalopy project: beginnings

this is a blog about a project inspired by...my car. i'm charlei. and this project was begun by my dear rose.
my car is its own story. it was a gift from my first friend in recovery from a serious slavery to drugs and a way of life stealing his hope. some people may see it as the kind of gift that makes one say, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth," but it's not like that at all to me. despite times of trouble including a 5 month period that involved maybe an average of 6 push-starts a day (the majority of which were assisted by complete strangers) this car has been a blessing to those without wheels, a rolling chance for people to practice good deeds, and a continual reminder that when you keep giving, it will get back to you. and, the inspiration for the project: this car has a back window that serves as a billboard for hope & creative thought.
the posts on the back window have resulted in more road camaraderie than i believed possible with total strangers, many thought-provoking conversations, and a few beginnings to beautiful friendships.
rose wanted to take this hope that was out on the road to the streets in a new way. i started with the new age jalopy (the name of my car, also sometimes referred to as 'the god mobile' because it only runs when god wants it to) when i lived in tampa, florida and have since moved to greenville, south carolina where i was for 3 months, and i'm currently in bowling green, kentucky. rose is transplanting the love in pittsburgh. i, personally, think it would be fantastic if you could help with this project.
the message is hope. help spread the hope & the love. & let us know how you do it.
we want to know how to reach farther & connect more.
-charlei, najp
